AGILE
~ who’d thought skiing would be so eventful ~
For over 20 years we have been celebrating a new way of working which we call ‘Agile’. The term over the years has taken on many forms of understanding to different people. I was going to write a post on “what is Agile?” but it’s quite clear when you read and then read again The Agile Manifesto and base your working world around it.
Then, take the key words used again and again in The Agile Manifesto Values and The Agile Manifesto Principles and try to put context to them in relation to what you know. Then, read the article on The Authors of The Agile Manifesto as in it lies some pearls of wisdom from the authors on what Agile means to them.
Agile can’t be bought as a package and applied to solve your company problems or give instant transformation. The industry has skewed the well-intended honesty that it was meant for. Too many people don’t care or understand the ‘essence’ of Agile and are just in it for the quick buck. I’m not going into this now…just please remember to stay away from the dark side and go towards the light…

~ lean mind, heart and strength ~
I recorded this video recently. It’s of the fantastic Bootleg Beatles playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the Nottingham Arboretum.
OK, so I’ll use any excuse to justify adding The Beatle’s music to the website! However, the song does kind of echo how I feel about the amount of Agile practioners out there who don’t really understand the background to the Manifesto and what in my opinion inspired it.
“Just three things to remember, use all of your Lean Mind, Heart and Strength!”

“Agile has become overly decorated. Let’s scrape away those decorations for a minute, and get back to the heart of agile.”
— Alistair Cockburn, one of the authors of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development
