The Scrum Values

There’s a brief explanation in the Scrum Guide as below:

People personally commit to achieving the goals of the Scrum Team. The Scrum Team members have courage to do the right thing and work on tough problems. Everyone focuses on the work of the Sprint and the goals of the Scrum Team. The Scrum Team and its stakeholders agree to be open about all the work and the challenges with performing the work. Scrum Team members respect each other to be capable, independent people.

The Five Scrum Values

What do you think this means?

The answer will differ from person-to-person but to me it links to the team pulling together and committing to the goal of the sprint. Or, as we say nowadays, forecasting the ability to meet the goal but have individual and team commitment to working towards it in their own part.

What do you think this means?

The answer will differ from person-to-person but to me it links to individuals being able to have the courage to say what they feel without reprisal. For example, saying to a key stakeholder that the goal isn’t going to be met for this and that reason; with the hope said stakeholder doesn’t use command and control tactics to stifle honesty.

What do you think this means?

The answer will differ from person-to-person but to me it links to every stakeholder focusing on making things happen. It’s too easy to lose sight of the big picture but we should always step back (inspect & adapt) to realign. Take stock of the situation whatever it may be and then focus to proceed with determination to succeed.

What do you think this means?

The answer will differ from person-to-person but to me it links to revealing your hand. Why if something is going right do we celebrate it as opposed to hiding when something goes wrong? Be open with stakeholders as you’ll all looking to succeed. To have this relationship where you can be open with each other will achieve so much.

What do you think this means?

The answer will differ from person-to-person but to me it links to both courage and openness. It takes guts to fashion an open relationship where you’ll taking the courage to speak your mind. The stakeholder(s) listening to you must show you respect and value your opinion. It’s that simple. I put this high on the list.
